💳 PAYING YOUR CHINA VENDORS SAFELY
When you're ready to place an order, how you pay your supplier is just as important as who you choose to purchase from.
🔐 RECOMMENDED PAYMENT METHODS
Whenever possible, I recommend processing your payments through:
✅ Alibaba
✅ PayPal
These payment methods may provide additional transaction records, dispute options and buyer protections when you follow their requirements.
💡 Important: Always make sure you're paying through the legitimate platform or verified payment information provided by the supplier. Never assume a payment is protected simply because PayPal or Alibaba is being used. Review the protection terms before sending money.
⚠️ WHAT ABOUT WESTERN UNION?
Some suppliers may ask you to send payment through Western Union or another direct money-transfer service.
I personally would not recommend using Western Union with a brand-new supplier.
Once you've developed a long-standing, trustworthy business relationship with a vendor and have successfully completed multiple transactions, you can decide whether you're comfortable using other payment methods.
Remember: direct money transfers generally don't give you the same type of purchase protection or dispute process you may have with a protected marketplace transaction.
🚨 DO YOUR RESEARCH
Most of the suppliers I've personally worked with have been trustworthy, but that does not mean every vendor you encounter will be.
Before sending money:
- Research the supplier and company.
- Check how long they've been in business or active on the platform.
- Review ratings, transaction history and customer feedback when available.
- Start with a sample or small order.
- Confirm product details and pricing in writing.
- Keep screenshots, invoices, receipts and conversations.
- Be cautious if you're pressured to pay quickly or move a protected transaction off-platform.
Never send more money than you're comfortable risking with an unfamiliar supplier.
🏢 YOUR BUSINESS SETUP CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
This is another reason why completing the Business Setup sections of your membership is important.
When contacting wholesale suppliers, present yourself as a business owner, not simply as someone looking to purchase a few items for personal use.
Introduce yourself professionally and, when appropriate, provide your:
Business Name • Business Email • Website • Social Media/Storefront
Suppliers are looking for potential long-term wholesale customers. A business that appears established may signal the potential for repeat purchases and larger future orders.
A supplier may sell to you whether you're purchasing for business or personal use, but in my experience, presenting yourself professionally as an established business owner can sometimes lead to quicker or more serious responses.
💡 Remember: You don't have to pretend you're a large company or promise huge orders. Simply present your business professionally and let the relationship grow naturally.
✨ BUSINESS TIP
Your first order doesn't have to be your biggest order.
Introduce your business → Ask questions → Order samples → Test the quality → Build trust → Increase your orders as your business grows.
