I want to be completely upfront about what you should expect from me and from this resource.
This is a DIY LLC Formation Guide. I am providing you with the notes, resources, links, steps, and information that I have personally used and documented while setting up businesses.
I have taken very detailed notes because I knew I would not remember every step forever. I do not form LLCs every day, so if you call or message me with a question, I may not immediately know the answer off the top of my head.
And that's okay.
In many cases, I would have to go back to the same notes and resources that I am already providing to you.

This is your business, and part of becoming a business owner is learning how to research, read instructions, ask questions, and figure some things out.
Sometimes you may have to read something twice.
Sometimes you may have to make a phone call.
Sometimes the first person you speak with may not explain something in a way that makes sense to you.
And sometimes you may have to ask the question differently before you get the information you need.
Don't let that scare you.
You are learning how to operate your business.

Throughout the resources, I will give you official contact information whenever possible.
If you need clarification about a government form, account, filing, or requirement, I strongly encourage you to contact the appropriate agency directly.
Keep in mind that government representatives generally cannot make business or legal decisions for you. They may not be able to tell you exactly what you personally should choose, but they can often explain their forms, requirements, terminology, filing procedures, and where to find additional information.
The way you ask your question matters.
Instead of:
"What am I supposed to do?"
Try:
"I'm completing this section and I need help understanding what this question is asking."
You'll be surprised how much information you can get simply by asking the right question.

You're paying for their experience, time, knowledge, research, and for the convenience of having someone else handle much of the process for you.
That's valuable.
But if paying hundreds of dollars for professional assistance is not in your budget right now, you may decide that you're willing to spend a little extra time learning how to complete the process yourself.
That's exactly who this DIY resource is for.
❤️ Be Honest With Yourself
If you enjoy learning, researching, following instructions, making a few phone calls, and figuring things out along the way, you can absolutely give this a try.
If you know you don't want to read through instructions, contact agencies, double-check information, or spend time working through the process, a DIY option may not be the best fit for you.
And there is nothing wrong with that.
